The 71st Convocation held by Panjab University Chandigarh on Thursday was a remarkable highlight in the history. With the data representing 72% women scholars in the list, the convocation congratulated the achievers of the year. This comes out to be a big victory, keeping the Women's Day in mind.
Data presented by the university outlined that out of total 239 medalists for both postgraduate degrees and undergraduate degrees, 79% (189) are women. Also, 75.5% (105) of total 139 PG degree medalists are women and 84% (84) of total 100 undergraduate degree gold medalists were held by women this year. About 64.5% PHD holders are women. In the postgraduate degree category as well, 278 female awardees would be present. For undergraduate conferees, female toll is about 70.5%
As per the data, this success is a persistent one for out of 918 students in attendance, 794 were women. The Honorable Vice President of India, Mr Jagdeep Dhankar commented "The evening is indeed pleasant. It’s a momentous occasion, albeit a slight setback for my segment- boys. Witnessing the appointment of first female vice chancellor in over 140 years is indicative of our progress. Today's event mirror the image observed on January 26. We are swiftly moving towards a future women-led development and governance. Men, please watch out." This witty interaction made the event more memorable. As rightly put by him, the progressive rates of women success in different field has become quite evident over years.
