The appointment for the advisor to the Chandigarh administration is ongoing. And this appointment is significant as the current advisor, Dharam Pal, is set to retire on October 31, 2023. For this post, Dr. Sharat Chauhan has emerged as a potential appointee.
Dr. Sharat Chauhan, 1994 batch officer and currently serving as the Special Secretary Finance in Arunachal Pradesh.His potential appointment as Advisor to Chandigarh Administrator is generating considerable interest in the bureaucratic circles.
Apart from Dr. Chauhan, there are several other senior IAS officers in the race for the position. Notably, among the contenders are Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Dharmendra and Principal Secretary Dr. Sharad Chauhan, both of whom belong to the AGMUT cadre from the 1989 and 1994 batches, respectively. Goa Chief Secretary, Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, a 1991-batch AGMUT cadre officer, and New Delhi Municipal Corporation Chairperson Amit Yadav, from the same batch, are also trying for the role.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to finalize the next UT adviser in the first week of November. This decision holds particular significance as the Advisor to Chandigarh Administrator plays a crucial role in the governance and administration of the Union Territory also the decision will impact the direction and leadership of the Union Territory for the foreseeable future.
