UGC has drafted guidelines for recognising degrees obtained from Foreign Universities while at the same time restricting degrees obtained through distance and online mode and any franchise agreement.
This decision has come up after Universities are on the way to set up campuses in Indian cities.
While the guidelines state that the minimum duration of the programme should be similar to that of a corresponding programme in India, in case the duration varies, the UGC will consider minimum credit requirements that should be the same in both institutions.
The Commission has further released comprehensive guidelines which restrict as well as provide opportunities for students in this new draft.
The commission has also asked for suggestions till September 16 from stakeholders on the draft.
