PU administration yesterday issued a notice for all the shopkeepers and restaurant owners to close their respective shops and restaurants by 8.30 and 10 PM, owing to various law and order problems like eve-teasing, cat-calling by roaming boys, with the hotspot for these activities being the outside road of juice shops adjacent to SBI.
According to them, many girl students, especially the
ones going to the library after dinner, have reported this
problem.
But instead of coming with an effective and sustainable solution, PU administration decided to reduce the opening hours of the market shops and restaurants, which in turn will not only affect shopkeepers but also affect students who study till late night and want to stay in the 'secured' PU Campus for food, as these 'law-and-order' problems are much more prevalent outside the campus.
*If we see other universities there are at least one or two Restaurant, in which they can access food 24*7, but PU even didn't have one. We sometimes have to go to NFS like places through PGI Gate where a lot of drunkard people come and comment on us. Having food inside campus is much safer." said students to Pulse when the Pulse team talked to them in the market.
Also, a simple and silent place gives more call to such cases instead of a crowded place where shops are open as girls students feel safe as something is open and Road is not silent or "Sunsaan".
Instead of coming up with this bogus and illogical idea, the PU administration should have tried to increase the security of the market or should have come up with a 24x7 type of Restaurant, so that students can stay inside the campus and be safe at late nights, rather than having to step out of the security of the PU campus.
This doesn't make any sense !!!
