Savitha, a 15 year old teen hailing from Chennai, T. N. took home the bronze medal in the World Rapid Chess championship happening in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
She's the Third Indian to win the Rapid Chess championship, after Vishwanathan Anand and Koneru Humpy
With a seeding at 36th position, Miss Savitha gathered a total of 8 points in 11 rounds to rank 3rd in the FIDE championship. Her astonishing performance started from round 8 where she tallied at 6.5 points but soon after gathered 1.5 points in just 3 rounds.
She lost her chance to the silver with Zhansaya Abdumalik from Kazakhstan during her 9th round, but registered a top victory against Qianyun Gong of Singapore in 10th and finished with a draw in the final round with Dinara Saduakassov from Kazakhstan as well.
Coach RB Ramesh wished hearty congratulations to Savitha through his tweet while looking forward towards her journey after this great start.
