
November 5 is dedicated to the remembrance of late singer Bhupen Hazarika. The famous Assamese playback singer was also a lyricist, actor, filmmaker, musician, poet and politician. His songs were mainly based on universal brotherhood, love and humanity. Due to his sweet and melodious voice, he was popularly known as Sudha Kontho.
The Bard of Brahmaputra was born in Sadiya- a town in Assam on September 8, 1926. He belonged to a family of artists. It was his mother who introduced him to the world of music through her lullabies. She also gave him apt knowledge about Assamese culture which is reflected in his songs. He wrote his first song at the age of 13. He is known to introduce Assamese music to the Hindi cinema.
Bhupen Hazarika's most famous works include Rudaali, Darmiyaan: In Between, Gaja Gamini, Daman, Indramalati. He is also a recipient of many awards like Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Shri, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Asom Ratna to name a few.
