The less hyped about, International Men's Day is celebrated on November 19 every year. It is celebrated with the same intention as women's day- to appreciate the positive efforts of men towards our society.
But what we usually see is that, people don't bother much about celebrating Men's day as compared to Women's day. Reasons? Mard ko dard ni hota; you're a man, it's your duty to support women; men can't show their tears to anyone; men have to be strong and masculine to protect others etc.
But what about them? What about their feelings deep down? All this clichéd thinking of our society puts too much pressure on each gender on how he/she has to act.
Even though we are moving towards "gender equality", are we actually practicing it in a real sense? Is gender equality only about women and the atrocities done to them? No! It applies to men too.
Recently there has been an increase in the number of instances where men were the victim but had to face punishment because society has created an image that women are so called "bechari" and are always right, it must be his fault.
There are times when this happens, but deciding ourselves who is right and wrong on the basis of gender is not justice.
So on this International Men's Day, let's take a pledge to consider men "humans" too and come out of our clichéd thinking about them. PU Pulse wishes everyone a very happy Men's Day.
