Panjab University has now changed the layout for taking admissions in Masters of Engineering for both UIET and UICET departments. The admission is now purely based on Gate exam and merit. Preference will be given to those candidates who are qualified in GATE and after that, vacant seats will be filled according to merit.
Earlier, the PUCET (PG) test used to be conducted for admission. This has been proposed yesterday by DUI in a letter. The decision has been taken in regard to fulfilling all the seats as last time there were seats which were left vacant.
However some professors oppose the decision by stating that giving admission on merit basis will result in loss to PU students as in PU students got less marks as compared with Private institutions where students got marks in 90s. So it would favor them.
Panel also proposed to start the admission process as early as possible so that no further inconvenience regarding the vacant seats will be there at the last moment.
