The Bandi Singh Rihai Morcha movement was started with the demand to release sikh militants who even after completion of their sentences had not been released from jail.

The protesters have been supporting this Qaumi Insaaf Morcha at the YPS chowk near the Chandigarh-Mohali border since January 7. Their main demand is the release of Bandi Singhs. They also demand justice in the 2015 sacrilege and police firing case of Faridkot.

From the last two days, the protesters were trying to enter Chandigarh but were stopped by Chandigarh Police. The barricades, water cannons were used to stop them, a fire fighting vehicle among various other vehicles were damaged by the protestors. A lot of heated arguments were also there.

The Nihangs also gathered at the site with swords and sticks and attacked some of the police personnel as well. Afterwards, the overall protest took a very violent form.
