Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the latest tiger census data at a commemorative event to mark the completion of 50 years of 'Project Tiger' in Mysuru.
Today, he spent the morning in the Bandipur Tiger Reserve, where he spoke with front-line field personnel and Self Help Groups engaged in conservation efforts. He also went to the Theppakadu Elephant Camp in the Tamil Nadu Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and interacted with the mahouts and kavadis there.
The Field Directors of the tiger reserves that received the highest marks in the recently completed 5th cycle of the Management Effectiveness Assessment exercise were in contact with PM Modi during his visit. The International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA), a global movement aiming at safeguarding and conserving seven important big cat species — Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Puma — will also be established by him. The Range nations that are home to these majestic animals will be members of the alliance.
