The PUCSC Elections 2023, were one of the most twisted elections PU has witnessed so far, with people changing their ideologies like clothes, friends becoming foes, and alliances forming and breaking like a house of cards.
With the elections over and the results out, one can clearly claim that the results this time are unconventional and have acted as a way of revival for the apolitical parties.
Be it the entry of the Sath organisation with a female face at the post of Vice-president or the victory of Gaurav chahal from PUHH at the post of the Joint secretary, the monopoly of political parties has been broken.
After a long time a female face has made an entry into the PUCSC council, ever since the announcement of Ranmeekjot Kaur's candidature for the post of Vice president by Sath, it was considered a smart move, a young 19 year old girl hailing from one of the most academic oriented department went on to conquer the post, she proceeded to win with a huge margin proving that a strong candidate can be more promising than a strong party.
Panjab University Helping Hands (PUHH) too is a apolitical party which has made its debut in the council this time, playing a smart strategy by contesting at the post of Joint secretary, forming an alliance with the ABVP, and backing a face from UIET, a major votebank of elections, the members of PUHH in leadership of Hariom Deswal have shown the other parties that elections are not only about money and muscle power but also about mind-games.
At the end of the day, the newly elected council looks promising with fair share of power between political and apolitical parties, female representation and a face from all the major alliances, it can only be hoped that the leaders will stay true to their words and will commit themselves for the welfare of the university as they are going to be held accountable in case of inaction during the next elections.
