Anindita Mitra, MC commissioner of Chandigarh, stated on Friday that the tenants of PU market will not be liable to pay property tax. This was done in view of the recent notice that was issued to the tenants to pay a hefty amount of Rs 22 crore as property tax after which the MC commissioner ushered the officials to not issue such notices. She declared that the tax will be recovered from the actual shop owners or the university itself.
The resolution to withdraw property tax notices was pitched by Sachin Galav at the MC House meeting commenting that the tenants were already paying monthly rent to the university authorities and that the previous rules for recovering the tax from PU should be followed.
