Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has assumed the role of Chairperson for the INDIA Alliance, following substantial support from leaders during a virtual meeting on Saturday, January 13th. Notable supporters included Congress Leaders, Tamil Nadu CM Mk Stalin, Nationalist Congress Party Chief Sharad Pawar, and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, among others.
Although Bihar’s CM Nitish Kumar was suggested for the position of Convenor, West Bengal’s CM Mamata Banerjee, absent from the meeting, opposes his appointment. Nitish Kumar, facing opposition from Mamata Didi, has yet to accept the Convenor role, stating that he will only do so when all parties reach a consensus. During the meeting, Kumar proposed Rahul Gandhi for the role of Chairperson and Lalu Yadav for Convenor.
In the same meeting, Rahul Gandhi announced his plans to embark on the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Monday, urging other Bloc parties to participate in their respective states.
