Jagdeep Dhankar has been elected as the vice president of India since the tenure of the current Vice President Mr.Venkaiah Naidu is about to complete.
He successfully won by securing 528 votes over Opposition candidate Margaret Alva's 182.
Earlier he was serving as the governor of West Bengal till his last nomination was announced last month, he also faced a challenge from ex- Union Minister and former five time Congress MP Margaret Alva also his candidature was backed by a majority of opposition party.
The 71 year old Vice President elected is a Jat leader from Rajasthan and has a socialist background
