The Shiba Inu dog, who stole the hearts of netizens since his Instagram debut in 2015, sadly passed away on August 18, 2023. He was battling leukemia.
The news was announced on his Instagram, managed by his owner, Kathy. "He fell asleep on Friday morning during his last thoracentesis surgery. Originally, we wanted to arrange chemotherapy or other possible treatments for him after this operation, but it is too late now," she shared. She thanked the medical staff who had helped Balltze for the past six months.
The internet poured its heart out while mourning the passing of its favorite dog, with many even thanking him. "He is a legend of the Internet world, a meme founder, and now he is immortal. Rest in love, sweet Ball Ball; you were and are loved by billions all over the world," a user wrote while commenting on the Instagram post announcing Balltze's death.
Affectionately called Ball Ball, he was 12 years old. He lived in Hong Kong with his owner, who adopted him when he was just a year old. The donations collected for the dog's medical bills will now be donated to local animal charities by Kathy.
