This is the biggest international event being organised in Kashmir since 2019 when the special status of the state was scrapped off .It is being organised from May22 to May 24 in which more than 60 delegates from G20 member countries are expected to attend the event.
But China and Pakistan are opposing India for holding the meeting in Srinagar on which the spokesperson of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wang Wenbin said, “China is firmly opposed to holding any kind of G20 meetings in disputed territory, and will not attend such meetings.”
As seen, the relations between India and Pakistan have not been good since India scrapped its special status in 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir. Also the split of the state had created the two federal territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh which in large numbers is under Chinese control.
On the other hand, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “India is fully prepared and committed to protect its sovereignty and dignity.”
Also, it is neutral to hold meetings in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as they are an integral and inalienable part of the country.
Elite security forces along with other security forces have been boosted around the Dal Lake and the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, which is the venue for the meeting.
