India on the last day of the 4th test match of the series persevered with an excellent display of grit and determination. With the series levelled at 1-1 coming into the final test, both teams had it all to play for.
With India succumbing to multiple injuries to star players and in the absence of the Indian Skipper Virat Kohli, the team had been written off, especially after the horror show in Adelaide where the visitors were 36 all out.
With Indian youngsters and debutants taking the fight to the Aussies at the Gabba, where Australia had not lost for 33 years, the match went down to the wire.
The heroics of Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill earlier in the day ensured a hard-fought victory for India as they retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy, and picked up back to back series wins in Australia. With this win, India climbs onto the top spot of the ICC Test championship.
