Another incident of a burning train took place in Kerala on Sunday night that resembled the GODHRA 2002 case. A man named Shahrookh Saifai allegedly used petrol to set a fellow passenger on fire around 9:45 pm as the train was crossing the Korapuzha railway bridge after passing through Kozhikode city.
Nine other passengers sustained injuries and three, including a 2 year old child and a mother, were found dead on the tracks. An investigation by a railway officer revealed that the accused did not have any argument with any passenger.
The NIA team also visited Kozhikode and inspected the train's D1 department that was set on fire. A police officer stated that they suspect this was a well-planned criminal act but no arrests have been made so far.
