Heavy rains heavily impact the road system of Morni hills as it finds itself cut off from Panchkula and the Tricity Region.
Since the past few days, the northern region of Punjab, Haryana and the spectacular land of Himachal Pradesh has faced the underlying wrath of nature brought along with heavy rains. Many beautiful tourist spots, have faced destruction in this time. Lately, Chandigarh People’s favourite local tourist spot, Morni Hills has become a victim of this natural calamity, as it finds itself isolated from the tricity region.
Subject to rising water levels and numerous landslides, the roads of Morni hills have been heavily damaged, blocking its connection to Himachal Pradesh, Panchkula, Raipur Rani and Kalka.
Adding on, the Ghaggar river, which flows through the route to Morni Hills, is facing dangerous water levels. The swollen river embankments, near the bridge towards Majri Chowk, are the main cause of erosion of roads leading to the Hills. Save Ghaggar, a team of Panchkula Residents wrote to NHAI to take cautionary measures and steps to protect the bridge, as a wall of stones, and stairs beneath the bridge were washed away, owing to the heavy flow of the river.
To this, and the other incident reports of such cases, the authority replied that it is closely monitoring the situation, and sent various rescue teams, machinery and staff to clear out the stretches of debris filled roads.
