Google Takes Action: Bans Indian Apps Over Policy Breach
On March 1, Google removed apps from 10 Indian companies because they didn't pay service fees. Google, in a blog post, said these well-established companies didn't meet payment obligations, impacting matrimonial apps. Google, supported by the Supreme Court, claims the right to charge fees on Google Play.
Reports say popular apps like Naukri.com and 99acres from Info Edge were affected, along with BharatMatrimony, Shaadi.com, Truly Madly, QuackQuack, Stage, Altt by Balaji Telefilms, and Kuku FM. This reveals a clash between app developers and Google over payment issues.
The problem started with Google charging 11% to 26% on in-app payments, changing from the earlier 15% to 30% after the Competition Commission of India's order. This adjustment caused a dispute between Google and app developers.
