The Panjab University girls hostels opened for 24x7 after a struggle by the students but again it seems that staff of some hostels are still taking revenge from students. As per the complaints by some students, Hostel no. 6 staff questioning students, asking them for unnecessary paperwork. Furthermore, the staff at some hostels threaten students by telling them to call their parents as they were the part of the protest.
As per a resident of Mother Teresa Hall, the hostel staff constantly questions them over how they dress and leave the hostel late, using phrases like "Ladke milne aye honge bahar pakka," "Gedi marne ja rahi hain," and "Ese library to nahi ja rahi hain." She further added that they initially refused to let us leave the hostel after signing the attendance record, but after my friend from another hostel told them that she was only asked to sign the mobility register and it's allowed to leave the hostel they made some unpleasant remarks and agreed to let us out after filling out an application stating that it would not be the hostel's staff responsibility if anything happens to us.
"I didn't sign the attendance register the next day, but they still asked us to fill out an application and explained that if you leave the hostel after 9 p.m., you must fill out an application as well as sign the mobility register." said another resident of Girls Hostel no.6.
However, there is no such rule to fill out an application in any other hostel.
According to several students, GH 1 interrogates pupils about why they are going out, when they will return, and where they are going, as well as why visitors, including female visitors, are arriving. At GH 3,4 the security staff present at the main gate is disrespectful towards male students and questions about why they are visiting the hostels and restrict them from visiting citing Covid as a reason.
