An hour long biographical glimpse of the life of the great Persian poet and philosopher Rumi was performed through “Naqqali” ,a Persian dramatic performance by Naqqāl, Ashwin Afraad at the Kendri Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Sector 28 A.
During his virtuoso performance, Ashwin, a resident of Pune who has completed his masters of philosophy in Persian, combined verses and prose to tell the life and philosophy of Rumi through ghazals and ashaar in Persian. Which was also followed by its translation in hindi-urdu. Naqqāli is the oldest form of dramatic performance in Iran.
The performer – the Naqqāl – recounts stories in verse or prose accompanied by gestures and movements, and sometimes instrumental music. This is the first performance of Naqqali in Chandigarh, organised by Dr Amandeep Kaur (Assistant Professor, History, SD College) and performed by Ashwin who has an experience of over 60 such shows all over India.
