Disabled Persons Welfare Society Urges Action Against Offensive Film Aimed at the Blind Community in Punjab
The President of the Disabled Persons Welfare Society, Sandeep Sharma, has called for an urgent meeting to address concerns regarding a newly released Punjabi film. The newly released Punjabi film “Anni deya mazak ae” contained a significant amount of derogatory language and jokes aimed at the blind community. The society has called for all organizations working towards the betterment of disabled persons in Punjab to unite and take a stand against this movie.
During the meeting, Blind Sanjeev Arora and Keerti expressed their disappointment and frustration with the use of abusive language and offensive jokes directed at the blind community in the film. Blind Jaspal Singh also pointed out that according to the 2016 Act on the Right to Blind, action should be taken against the creator and director of the movie, so as to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The attendees of the meeting urged Punjab government to take action and change the name of the film "Anni Deya Mazak Ae" while also removing all the offensive content directed at blind individuals.
This matter has raised concerns among the disabled community in Punjab, and people are demanding that filmmakers show greater sensitivity towards disability-related issues. The attendees at the meeting also stressed the need to raise awareness among the general public about the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and how to create a more inclusive society.
