The 'Land of Gods' Himachal Pradesh and Punjab have been experiencing heavy rainfall, landslides causing death and destruction for quite sometime since the middle of June and Yellow Alert has been issued.
Himachal Pradesh saw catastrophic incidents as a result of excessive rainfall during a 24-hour period. The Chief Minister acknowledged 16 fatalities in two distinct incidents. A cloudburst in Solan District claimed seven lives, while a landslip near a Shiv Temple in Shimla's Summer Hill region killed nine people.
In addition, up to 20 people buried in two Shimla landslides. Six individuals were saved in Mamligh village during a cloudburst. Several residences in the Fagli region were submerged in mud and slush. The Chief Minister expressed his sympathies and instructed agencies to assist impacted families. Notably, over a whopping 700 highways were stopped as a result of the disaster, forcing all educational institutions to close for the day.
Along with this in the state of Punjab, the Weather Department has issued a rain alert with intermittent showers forecasted for Maja, Doaba, and Eastern Malwa regions. Winds at 40 km/h might provide relief from recent heat.
This terrible chain of events highlights the catastrophic impact of the torrential rains on Himachal Pradesh, spurring urgent response efforts and emphasising the importance of preparedness in the face of such natural catastrophes.
Continuous rain in Himachal Pradesh heightened concerns in Punjab. Bhakra Dam's water level reached 1674.51 feet, 6 feet below danger. Flood gates opened 2 feet for testing, releasing 8100 cusecs.
