Great news for final-year undergraduates! The University Grants Commission (UGC) now allows them to pursue an honors or research-focused degree after completing a one-year bridge course.
UGC Chairman Jagdish Kumar encourages universities to introduce bridge courses for multi-disciplinary programs. Students can exit after the first, second, or third year, but completing the full four-year program results in a four-year degree. Online and offline bridge courses are considered equivalent, and top universities with an 'A+' grade in NAAC can conduct online courses.
Specific regulations apply to undergraduate programs, requiring a 4-year UG honors degree in major disciplines. Eligible students completing a 4-year UG degree with 160 credits can opt for research in the fourth year, leading to a UG degree in research or honors. They must undertake a research project or deputation, earning 12 credits to complete the 160 credits for the UG degree.
