On Friday, a sudden cloudburst occurred near the base camp of Amarnath cave, Himalayas in southern Kashmir. The unfortunate event said to have occurred at around 5:30 PM which claimed the lives of 5 people out of which 3 were females and the remaining two were males.
A rescue operation by NDRF, SDRF and other stakeholders is underway. A heavy flow of water came down from high above the cave pertaining to heavy rains. A chopper is also deployed to aid and airlift the injured.
Rains have stopped for the moment, while Vijay Kumar(IGP, Kashmir) said that the situation is now under control. According to the sources, a warning was already issued by the weather department regarding bad weather conditions which led to authorities halt the movement of pilgrims from Baltal and Pahalgam routes, but seeing the improvement in the atmosphere on 6th day the yatra was resumed for a day.
