UT Chandigarh administration has enforced an obligation on wearing helmets for all exempting only sikhs wearing turbans. Any failure to obey the same will supposedly result in a challan.
Under a notification stated by UT administration back in 2018, all sikh women were exempted from wearing protective headgear even if they weren't wearing a turban. However, keeping safety on the frontline, the administration decided to come up with an agenda in the state-level road safety council, under the leadership of Chandigarh Administrator's Advisor Dharmapal, to impose a compulsion on wearing helmets for all except sikhs wearing turbans.
The central traffic rules have been amended to inculcate a sense of safety amongst everyone keeping in mind the necessity to ensure safety on road.
