A 22-year-old, PU student, Anjali Malik who was pursuing her graduation and a resident of sector 41, Chandigarh was killed by her uncle, Satbir. The victim was stabbed in the neck and her chest after getting beaten up by him.
Her uncle had issues regarding closeness with her male friends and objected to their frequent interactions. He also had reports about his conviction for the double murder earlier of his own wife in 2011 and mother-in-law in 2007.
Anjali's mother and brother were at home when the incident took place. Her father had died last year in an accident, while on duty. Her mother, on being questioned, informed that she was preparing tea while her brother was asleep in the next room when Satbir was having a heated argument on this matter with Anjali following which he bolted the door and started stabbing her. Her mother cried for help and tried to stop him from outside but she was warned about intervening. Hearing her and Anjali's screams, her brother woke up and tried to save her and also got injured while smashing a window.
Anjali was rushed to the hospital in sector 16 but was declared dead. Satbir fled away and has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector-39 police station.
